Our streamlined application process makes it easy for prospective students to apply. Our program is open to children living below the poverty level in the state of Connecticut. While kids do not need any prior musical experience, we do require that they be engaged, enthusiastic students.  The application includes an essay from the student, instrument choice, and income verification from the child’s caregiver(s).

We accept students between the ages of 6 and 18. As seasoned educators, we are highly aware of the different levels of focus in the various age ranges. We do expect dedication and commitment from every student, with age appropriate support systems and expectations in place. We work with students and their families to ensure success.

How It Works

Every Note Counts Music Program is partnering with schools and teachers throughout Connecticut. The lessons take place at Middlesex Music Academy, our first partner, located at 440 Main Street in Middletown This shared space is ADA compliant and is easily accessible by Middletown Area Transit.

Each student’s progress will be assessed every three months. At Every Note Counts, it is our goal to support the student through the learning process. Assessments will take into account the student’s individual learning style. To ensure that the student continues to advance musically, in a way that works best for them, these periodic check-ins are necessary. If a student is not progressing, they will be given ample opportunity to reevaluate their commitment to Every Notes Counts. We will also evaluate whether the instructor they are with is a good fit.

The application contains some basic information about both the child and their family. Not including the essay, the application should take only a few minutes to complete. Please have the following information and materials ready before you begin the application:

Short Essay

Please include a brief essay (200-300 words maximum) about why you want to be a part of Every Note Counts Music Program. The program is open to kids between the ages of 8 and 18. We evaluate the essays based on the enthusiasm and the determination that the prospective student shows for learning music. The writing is also assessed appropriately for the child’s age.

Financial Information

To be eligible for Every Note Counts, your family’s income must be at or below 250% of the national poverty level. Please provide a copy of your most recent 1040 tax form. If the student is in foster care, you may be able to forgo the income restriction. In this case, please upload documentation showing proof of foster care.

Instrument Choice

Students can take lessons on the following instruments: piano, voice, guitar, drums, bass, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and trombone. It is important to note that Every Note Counts currently only provides music instruction. We cannot provide an instrument for the student. If a student is unable to obtain an instrument for their lessons, please let us know and we will connect you with other organizations that can provide instruments.

If you have any questions about the application process, our program, or are not sure which instrument is right for you; we’d love to hear from you! Send us an email at info@everynotecounts.org, and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Otherwise, please click the button if you are ready to Apply!
